Techniplan was started in 1983 by its Principal, Colin Wolf, who is still active in the day to day operations.

The company originally concentrated on the design of large materials handling systems such as conveyors, shiploaders, stackers and reclaimers and processing plants for the mining industry. Colin Wolf had extensive experience in this industry from both a consulting viewpoint and from a contracting and steel fabrication viewpoint.

Starting in 1985, Techniplan began to bid and win turnkey design contracts. Over the last fifteen years, these contracts have varied in range from a small as thirty thousand dollar attachments to forklifts and excavators up to two million dollar plant upgrades and green field multi-disciplinary projects.
Techniplan is still heavily involved in the mining industry having recently built two stacker conveyors for a coal mine in Queensland, two ball feeders for two zinc mine ball mills, a large rejects gate for an open cut coal mine in the hunter valley, a stacker for a coal mine, chain feeders for a power station and numerous design assignments for coal washplants, pumping stations, elevated coal bins and similar.

However, we are becoming increasingly more involved in the design and construction of specialised machinery such as jet slingers, railway maintenance equipment, cranes, manipulators, and prototypes for inventors. Typical machines which we have designed and built over recent years a ballast under cutter, sleeper renewers, spot tamper, clip inserter, sleeper unloaders, sleeper handling crane, special purpose scissor lift, truck mounted boom lifts for railway maintenance.

Designs for other companies include a mobile container straddle car, two special purpose hydraulic erection cranes, a 30 tonne lift rail clamp, I-Beam manufacture conveyors, oilsearch bridge trolley, electrical cable feeder & tensioning system and several large mobile crushing plants.

Techniplan also specialises in refurbishing/upgrades to existing machines whether supplied by Techniplan or not.
